Just when you think you're hiding your lack of sleep, stress, or anxiety - tired eyes betray how you really feel.

Eye bags, dark circles, uneven skin tone or sallow skin are the usual suspects that make me look fatigued. In these situations what often stands in between you and the forgiving blanket of foundation is the “Grey“ cast or ”Cakey” texture that appear when trying to conceal the under eye areas! Unfortunately makeup is not the answer - it’s time to investigate your health and life habits to uncover more permanent solutions!

Real health radiates from the inside out. I design products like the DaisyCode Flora Mask as a part of a Lifestyle, because its only when we can fill our daily self-care routines with things that suit our level of motivation, budget and environment can we achieve true skin health. Here are just a few ways I deal with looking “tired”!

1. Stay Away from Stress and Blue Light to Maintain Quality Sleep

Have you heard the saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”? Putting down the phone, casting your gaze into the distance or closing your peepers are still the most effective ways to let tired eyes rest properly. We humans sleep through a third of our lives, if that quality of sleep is poor or a lack of sleep is an enduring condition, our immune system will weaken, causing the body to be inflamed and more prone to cell deviations and irreversible damage. Stress is also a huge factor in poor sleep. In this way the skin and eyes are often the first warning signs of potential health issue or communicating the body’s need to rest. If you ignore its message, you may need to spend a lot more time and money to solve future health issues.

2. Skin Care Routines for Loving Every Single Day

A lot of people asked me why should they take so many steps every day for skin care? Is there an easier way to maintain good skin balance? In one word, no. There are no shortcuts to enduring results. With simple practices to maintain good health, natural beauty will come from inside out!

Weapons of Choice

Deep hydration toners, lotions or face oils, eye creams and facial mask come together to form an indispensable hydration skin care routine. If there are no outstanding skin problems, you may wish to add a cleansing mask, normally used twice a week before the normal routine, as a part of your skin care arsenal. Don’t forget to research carefully to choose an eye cream which compliment your skin composition to hydrate + moisturize DAILY!

What If I Was Born This Way?

I once heard someone said they were born with sallow skin and tired eyes. WRONG! To know your skin type is to take time to embrace one’s natural beauty! Olive skin is the best example. When working with this rare and special skin tone, the best thing is the natural glow. Often mere foundation is enough to give the base to their makeup, no concealer required. This jade-touched complexion is an uncommon blend of neutral undertones, which produces a beautiful olive tint. Light olive skin typically has cream to beige undertones where darker olive skin is moderately brown.

You've got to take care of yourself. Its no one else’s responsibility. Our bodies give us many signs and over time these may change as the body’s function gradually declines with age or is continuously overworked. It naturally takes more effort to maintain our physical and mental health as time goes by.

Tip: The skin around the eyes is extremely thin and fragile, that’s why eye cream products are formulated especially for the under eyes area and general skin care products are not recommended!

Collagen will be lost over the years, but moisturizing and hydrating the skin the right way day and night is the best and easiest way to slow down collagen loss.

3. Eating and Emotions

Diet

Cutting ingredients that cause chronic food sensitivities from your diet will minimize inflammation in your body. Diet therapy has become one of the most important aspects of my life, but as a foodie I am happy to report eat healthy does not mean eating the world’s most bland and disgusting foods! You might try to start small, by choosing good fats and natural flavours that work with your physical condition whenever you can.

Emotions, Food and Red Wine

But everything in balance. For myself I would say what affects my skin perhaps more than diet alone is stress. Our emotions are more than isolated “feelings”, they are a part of a cycle driven by physical and psychological interactions -ergo self-care is more than just taking care of the body. To relax and free my mind I still love going to my favourite restaurants for delicious food. Now I try to cut down on my allergens but you may wish to savour a glass of red wine with your best friend or even by yourself (as long as your body agrees)! Life is too short to live by regimes advised in a book or blog, it must be felt and we each owe it to ourselves to make the best choices we can from moment to moment despite what that may look like to someone else. Around this concept the movie "Under the Tuscan Sun" comes to mind - a film about Frances Mayes, a successful writer in San Francisco who seemed to have it all when her beautiful life takes an unexpected turn and she learns her husband has been cheating on her. Following her divorce, she decides that it's a good idea to escape to Tuscany for a new life. She met a friend, Catherine, who impressed me just as much as she impressed Frances. Not unlike Frances, she’d left someone she loved but she was able to go on to dance and cry in a fountain. A woman able to ignore everybody else and smile for the heartbroken, Catherine tells Frances to "Never lose Your childish enthusiasm, Things would come your way!"

4. Use Concealer

Finally, though not addressing the underlying problems, makeup can still be a way to help us feel more confident when looking in the mirror, since we know our tired appearance is only temporary and we are on the way to solve the problems! For this I suggest applying the right correction colour as thinly as possible to conceal under eyes. Want a step-by-step tutorial on how to conceal dark circles all day?
