Lunar New Year Makeup Inspo | Ideal for Sensitive Skin after Laser Therapy

I’d landed in Taiwan to spend the holidays with my parents two days before Lunar New Year. Because of jet-lag and my time of the month, my skin was usually sensitive. After a laser skin treatment, my skin was particularly red during recovery. Check out Caring for Allergy Prone and Sensitive Skin to read more about trigger for sensitive skin.

When the skin is in rough condition, we can use too much foundation and concealer to hide blemishes and the redness, giving the makeup a cakey finish. It also makes it hard to have a long -lasting makeup base.

How Can You avoid this?

Putting on makeup thinly, layer by layer, reduce the redness without using too much foundation and concealer. Let me show you some tips on how to create gentle makeup looks to work with redness in sensitive skin!

1. Prep the skin before applying Make-up. Pick the right priming products for your skin’s conditions . For this look I picked Benefit Matte Finish Mattifying Gel to make my skin smooth poreless.

2. Following primer, brush on foundation minimally, to even out the skin tone only. A lighter touch will help you avoid cakey makeup.

3. Set the makeup with powder. I chose the Fenty Beauty loose Setting Powder to hide pores even further and make the makeup last much longer.

4. Save the concealer for after your eye makeup so you can clean up the eye shadow and conceal only the section of the skin you really need to.

Though applying generous amounts of concealer and foundation all over the face could give it an overall more flawless appearance, the lighter touches we will use now will make it easier to achieve a clean, delicate and long-lasting makeup look.

Eyeshadow:

1. Prime and brighten the eyelid.

2. Apply the light-coloured (red-orange tone) shadow in broad strokes.

3.Focus the dark colour (brown) shadow to emphasize your eyelid shape.

I chose brown and red-orange tone eyeshadows for this look. This works with the natural pigment of my to emphasize the contour instead of focusing on "colour". Using shadows from only the members of the brown colour family to contour around eyes can easily become heavy and boring but adding some red and orange tones can start to give a simple look a professional and beautifully blended polish.
